A bench, but make it giant

Tucked away in Berlin's Wedding district near the Kieler Brücke, The Big Bench is exactly what it sounds like: a completely oversized metal bench that has absolutely no business being this large.

It's a local favourite among office workers, cyclists passing through, and anyone who wanders past and can't resist clambering up for a sit. It's free, it's fun, and it's peak Berlin energy — a little strange, a little wonderful, and very photogenic.

The bench is designed to make you feel small, appreciate the view from a new angle, and generally have a good time. No entry fee. No booking required. Just show up.

  • 1
By U-Bahn: Take the U6 to Reinickendorfer Straße, then it's a short walk south to Kieler Brücke.
  • 2
By bus: Route 147 also stops nearby at Otto-Weidt-Platz — handy if you're coming from further Hauptbahnhof.
  • 3
Address: An der Kieler Brücke, 13353 Berlin. Drop a pin and Google Maps will guide you straight there.
  • 4
Look for: A comically large metal bench. You won't miss it. Seriously.

Make the most of your visit

🌅
Golden hour is magic
Visit an hour before sunset for warm light on the bench and a gorgeous reflection in the canal behind it. Your camera will thank you.
🧺
Grab food nearby
The cafes at Otto-Weidt-Platz, just a short stroll away, are ideal for a coffee or a bite before or after your visit.
📐
Get the perspective shot
For the best photo, have a friend sit on the bench while you stand far back at ground level. The size difference is genuinely hilarious.
🚲
Combine it with a canal ride
The Berlin-Spandauer Schifffahrtskanal path is flat and gorgeous. Rent a bike and make a half-day of it along the water.
🐾
Dogs welcome
It's an outdoor public space, so four-legged visitors are very much at home here. Bonus: dogs near the giant bench make for excellent scale reference.
☀️
Best in dry weather
The metal surface can get slippery when wet. In good weather though, it's a delight — and Berlin summers are genuinely wonderful.
